Interesting facts about Thanos

#1 First Appearance

The character first appeared on the Marvel Universe comics in The Invincible Iron Man issue number 55. The comics were released in February 1973.

Before Thanos was introduced in the cinematic world of Marvel Universe, prior movies showed Easter eggs that led to his first movie appearance on Avengers: Infinity War. The character’s appearance did not stop there; he was also a part of Avengers: Endgame, which was a great hit at the box office.

#2 Origin

In the Marvel Universe, Thanos’ place of origin is Saturn’s moon Titan. He is the son of two Eternals whose names were Mentor and Sui-San. He is one of the last sons of A’Lars, otherwise known as Mentor.

Thanos’ name is derived from the Greek word ‘Thanatos,’ which means death.

#3 Physical Attributes and Genetics

Thanos stands 6 feet and 7 inches tall and weighs 985 pounds. Thanos is not a beautiful child that his mother even tried to kill him at birth.

Thanos was born with a genetic disorder called ‘The Deviant Syndrome.’ Likewise, he is one of the mutant characters. The genetics of Thanos is the primary reason behind his immense physical and psychological powers.

Thanos grew powerful, and along with it, his ambition for destruction likewise grew. In the comics, his character dropped nuclear bombs on Titan (his homeworld), killing thousands of people. The destruction he made in his homeworld also led to the death of his mother Sui-San. He ruled the remains of Titan.

After the ruin of Titan, Thanos met Death, whom he became romantically obsessed with. His obsession with Death prompted him to create a new life and even start a family. It was found out in the Marvel Universe that he murdered his family for Death.

#6 Creation of Drax

The character of Drax the Destroyer is different from the movie Guardians of the Galaxy. In the comics, Drax was created to kill Thanos. Mentor and Kronos created a humanoid body from the Earth and granted it superhuman powers to stop Thanos. It is how the real estate agent named Arthur Douglas became Drax the Destroyer.
